Chakras Part II of IV

Hi! I AM back with the next main three chakras. Just a quick reminder and we’ll be on our way. The seven main chakras are traditionally associated with certain functions within the body. Each is affiliated with a particular gland, nerve plexus, color, flower, crystal, emotion and much more. I actually found an article that discussed how cleanliness of different areas of your house reflect the state of your different chakras! In this article, the aura is represented by the outdoor areas of the house including the porch, deck, garage and landscaping. This explains why I feel so relaxed and sometimes down right relieved after I do a good house cleaning. I guess “cleanliness is next to Godliness!”

I have gone through several sources and I have attempted to compile a comprehensive, if not complete, list of these affiliations. The rest of the lists will be shared during subsequent posts since it was getting too lengthy for one. If you recognize some of the symptoms of an unhappy chakra or a happy chakra on the lists, you will know who needs work and who is running smoothly. There are so many ways to relate to your chakras. Find a way that you can relate to and improve your relationship with your chakras!

Here are a few points about some of the list entries.

The associated deities are from the Hindu religion.

Bija mantras are syllables repeated during meditation or yoga to focus the mind and energy. Each single syllable is believed to resonate with the energy of the associated chakra. Bija is Sanskrit for “seed.”

The Sacral Chakra is associated with female reproduction, the pelvis and its muscles and bones and the large intestines. It is also the center of sexual attraction, personal boundaries, and creativity. Signs of second charka imbalance include lack of personal boundaries or rigid boundaries, power struggles, mood swings, guilt, and an inability to care for one’s self (self- abuse). Problems also manifest sexually in the form of promiscuity, sexual repression, impotence, sexual addiction, and STDs. Relationships, violence and addiction are key issues for this chakra. As you can see, there is a whole lot of Sacral Chakra imbalance in the world. It can be balanced with exercise, play, giving your creativity an outlet in whatever positive way suits you, spending time near water, pampering yourself, doing things that are enjoyable for you (dancing, taking a bubble bath, whatever strikes your fancy!) and journaling about your wants and needs. Of course, extreme cases need something more like counseling or other professional help.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with your gut, lumbar spine, digestion, self-acceptance, self-confidence, engagement with life, and behavior toward others. Signs of imbalance for this chakra include low self-esteem, digestive problems, controlling or aggressive behavior, shame, and a sense of powerlessness. Key issues are personal power, levels of anxiety and fear, and introversion. The Third Chakra can be balanced with exercise (especially core training), work on self-esteem and self-confidence issues, by advocating for yourself, by listening to your instincts/intuition (this is where the expression “trust your gut” comes from), and by trying new things.

The Heart Chakra is associated with the physical heart, lungs, arms, mid-thoracic spine and hypertension (high blood pressure). It is the Soul Center and deals with love, forgiveness, peace, joy and deep-seated knowingness (“I know it in my heart”). Physical signs of imbalance include heart and lung issues, arm numbness, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Other imbalances include an inability to let go of grief, an inability to give or accept love, a lack of compassion, chronic stress, a fear of commitment, and an inability to deal with the demands of life. Key Heart Chakra issues include passion, tenderness, Inner Child issues and rejection. This chakra can be brought into balance with deep breathing exercises, sitting quietly with your hands resting on your heart, practicing gratitude, doing things that bring YOU joy, telling yourself “I love you,” practicing giving and receiving love and practicing forgiveness. (Remember, forgiving someone is not telling them that whatever they did to you was OK. It is releasing whatever negative emotions are associated with that act and/or person and not letting it have power over you anymore. Forgiveness is for YOU, not for the other person.)
